Ex-tea boy to be next mayor

A politician who once made the tea as a local government officejunior is to be the next Mayor of Bath.

Conservative councillor Colin Barrett will take over from LiberalDemocrat Tim Ball as first citizen in June.

The 73-year-old whose grandfather was a Labour councillor inLondon and whose son is a Conservative politician in SouthGloucestershire started his working life as a junior council clerk.

He says becoming one of the most important figures in theGuildhall from such humble roots is the highest possible honour.

The father of four, who has seven grandchildren, has been Bathand North East Somerset councillor for Weston since 2003.
