SARAZEN'S NAME STILL A BIG HIT.(SPORTS)

Byline: PETE DOUGHERTY Staff writer LOUDONVILLE With each passing generation, Gene Sarazen leaves a little something behind.

In the 1920s and '30s, golf enthusiasts marveled at his mastery in becoming the first player to win all four major championships. Now, at age 93, he uses his name and that of his late wife to support a number of charitable activities.

One is the Gene and Mary Sarazen Scholarship Fund at Siena College, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1978. Since 1982, he has returned every year to the Schuyler Meadows Country Club as host of a tournament, through which 16 Siena students are awarded $3,000 scholarships.
