Fed: Another boatload of illegals arrives
An Indonesian fishing boat carrying up to 120 illegal immigrants has been intercepted
near Ashmore Reef off north-west Australia.
Customs Minister AMANDA VANSTONE says customs vessel Botany Bay will escort the motorised
boat into a lagoon at the Ashmore Islands later today, when firm numbers will be determined.
She's said in a statement that immigration officials are expected to process the immigrants
once they arrive on the mainland.
Arrangements for their removal from Ashmore have yet to be finalised.
It is the second group of boat people detected in Australia this month, following last
month's record influx of 1,247 people aboard 14 boats.
