NSW: Two dead on roads on Anzac weekend

SYDNEY, April 25 AAP - A young mother and a teenager have died in separate car accidents
in NSW on the Anzac Day weekend.

An 18-year-old woman sitting in the back seat of a Holden Astra was killed when the
car span out of control on a bend and slammed into a pole on Douglas Road in Camden, south-west
of Sydney overnight.

The force of the impact flipped the vehicle over, leaving it resting on its roof and
killing the young Bow Bowing woman, yet the female driver and another male passenger escaped
unharmed.

The accident occurred around 11pm yesterday (AEST).

Earlier yesterday a mother was killed and her two-year-old daughter was injured in
a head-on collision near Newcastle.

Police said the 29-year-old Merriwa woman was killed when her Mitsubishi Magna collided
with a Ford Fairmont on the Golden Highway near Merriwa, in the upper Hunter area about
9am (AEST).

The woman's two-year-old daughter was taken to Merriwa District Hospital with chest
injuries and soft body tissue injuries to her arm.

She was in a stable condition.

The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old Rouse Hill man, was airlifted to John Hunter
Hospital with chest injuries and broken legs.

Police urged motorists to take more care.

"Police and emergency services see too many families destroyed by speeding, alcohol
or carelessness," Traffic Services Commander John Hartley said.
