Vic: State govt increases gaming licence fees
MELBOURNE, April 14 AAP - The Victorian government has increased gaming licence fees, saying they had been unfairly subsidised by taxpayers.
State Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos said the fees, introduced by the previousCoalition state government, had not risen for 10 years.
"If gaming operators want to renew their licence or increase the number of machines, they should pay for the costs to process their applications - not ordinary Victorians,"
he said.
The new fees include a venue operator's licence, which increases from $585 to $1,100,an application to increase gaming machine numbers, up from $173 to $2,085, and amendmentto the day or dates a venue can run 24 hour gaming, which used to be free but now costs$2,293.50.
The costs covered by the fees include conducting social and economic impact assessments, public hearings and fraud prevention investigations.
