When the Hudson Valley Community College football team was engulfed by the shadow of its own goalposts Saturday, the Vikings made a wise decision.
They gave the ball to sophomore tailback Dan Vergine of Ballston Spa.
From his own 1-yard line, Vergine outran the SUNY Canton defense on a 70-yard run that would probably have been a 99-yard touchdown if he hadn't stumbled on his own and fallen.
``For some reason, my legs got really tight and my toe stubbed a little bit,'' Vergine said. ``I just couldn't hold myself up and my legs just gave out.''
