As questions surfaced Wednesday about the psychiatric history of a mother charged with drowning her 4-year-old son, authorities in Florida confirmed a near-drowning incident there involving the boy nearly two years ago.
Suwannee County Sheriff's Department Maj. Les Hall confirmed that on May 14, 2000, Christine Wilhelm's son, Luke, who was then 2, nearly drowned in the couple's swimming pool at their home in Live Oak, Fla.
``The child was the same one that was allegedly killed there (Tuesday in Hoosick Falls),'' said Hall, who said he responded to the near-drowning incident.
Wilhelm, 38, is accused of killing Luke -- her youngest son -- by holding him under water in a bathtub while her husband, Kenneth Wilhelm, a nurse, was at work early Tuesday. She allegedly tried to drown her 5-year-old son, Peter, but the boy escaped by running away inside their River Road home in Hoosick Falls.
